Employment Law Resources
As more Pagans become public about their religious beliefs and practices, some may be concerned about how this might affect their
employment. I have put together a short list of resources in regards to employment law. Remember that laws do vary from state to state, so if you have any legal needs is a best to consult a local lawyer specializing in Employment Law. For instance, most states are what HR professionals and lawyers refer to as “At-Will” states, which is an often misunderstood. In legal terms, At-Will is “A common-law rule that an employment contract of indefinite duration can be terminated by either the employer or the employee at any time for any reason; also known as terminable at will.” This is often confused with the phrase “Right to Work State” which actually refers to unionization. In an At-Will state, the employee does have some responsibility as well. For instance, an employer may discover that you are visiting websites about Paganism and terminate you for a violation of their policy against personal use of the internet. Therefore, it is to a person’s advantage to work within the guidelines of the employee handbook and avoid situations that will be legally vague. Be a good employee an don’t give a company a reason to fire you for cause.
